Your Facebook Profile Photo Reveals Secrets About You!

I am not talking about facebook privacy issues here. This is about yet another article highlighting study around social media. This study apparently sought to  unravel the real person behind the profile photos on Social media sites. To do a rough and dirty test of this study, I went over the profile photos on my facebook list and also put my own intentions under scrutiny. The later excercise got me nodding on most of the top level findings of the study. Sample this-

…men were 50% more likely to have retouched their photo than women, and 20% less likely to be smiling in it.

…those over 30 and those in a couple were far more likely to have a child’s photo as their profile picture.

So obvious in the hindsight.

One very candid admission got me thinking too-

“My profile photo is meant to give the impression that i possess a higher degree of gravitas and sophistication than i actualy do.”

Facebook fails the ‘Exam’ Test

This is one Research Result that confirms my fears. According to this study, Students who use Facebook while studying for exams score significantly lower grades than those who do not. As a parent of a child who is just about discovering the internet, my paternal sense is tingling. If managing TV and Games time was not enough, we now have to grapple with internet and mobile habits of children.

I am only hoping like what humanity has done for ages, children would grow up to be much wiser and smarter despite all the apprehensions and worries of their parents to the contrary. Perhaps the human genetic code will rewire itself to cope and manage the digital overload which looks so daunting (to me at least) as of now.

Are we loosening up??

The Latest Trendwatching Report Says we are now living in the age of Maturialism.

Don’t know how much of this reflects India. Also the moot point is how much of loosening up is happening in the mainstream and how much of it  is still underground.

Powerful forces are threatening to balkanise the Internet

Government around the world are increasingly getting uneasy about the internet. This article is an interesting read. The internet will have to be saved from control obsessed regimes and also the rabid anarchists. Lot will also perhaps depend upon how much we are willing to tolerate between the two.
